Clash at Demonhead

Clash at Demonhead is a 1989 NES action-platformer developed and published by Vic Tokai. Players control the flamboyant Special Agent Bang, sent to stop a kidnapped scientist's doomsday bomb.

Rather than a straight line, its world is a branching web of interconnected routes selected from a map; items, weapons, and upgrades — bought with money earned from enemies — open new paths and abilities, giving it a non-linear, exploration-driven structure well ahead of its time. It later gained fame as a namesake in the Scott Pilgrim comics.
